Hermes Agent is an open-source AI agent from Nous Research. It runs as 1 gateway process that serves Telegram, WhatsApp, cron jobs, and other tools. The VPS runs only that gateway. Which VPS do we recommend for Hermes Agent?
Pick the provider from your conditions, not from the lowest price only.
- Lowest price with a server in Indonesia: Biznet Gio NEO Lite MS 4.2, Rp139,000 per month for 2 vCPU and 4 GB of RAM. The 60 GB disk is smaller than on other plans, so monitor the log size.
- Lowest price in Singapore: Vultr Regular Cloud Compute, US$20 per month for 2 vCPU, 4 GB of RAM, and 3 TB of transfer.
- Global provider with a Jakarta region: AWS Lightsail 4 GB bundle, US$24 per month with IPv4. The Jakarta transfer quota is 2 TB, half of the Singapore quota.
- 8 GB of RAM on a small budget: Biznet Gio NEO Lite MM 8.4, 4 vCPU and 8 GB of RAM, Rp269,000 per month at the offer price. The normal price is Rp399,000, and the pricing page does not give an end date for the offer.
- Free automatic snapshots in Jakarta: DomaiNesia Cloud VPS Turbo 4GB, Rp320,000 per month for a new purchase, then Rp640,000 per month at renewal.
All the options above use a server in Indonesia or Singapore. On 11 September 2026, we measured TCP connect times from 1 home connection in Indonesia: 26 ms to Singapore, 214 ms to Frankfurt, and 278 ms to New York. This is 1 measurement point, not a benchmark.

We took each price from the official pricing page of the provider on 7 November 2026. Prices from providers outside Indonesia do not include tax, unless the table says so. Providers can change prices without notice, so check again before you pay.
Why is 4 GB of RAM the starting point?
4 GB of RAM gives space for the gateway, Chromium, and a cron job that run in the same minute.
The official Hermes Agent installation page says that the installer adds Chromium (Chrome for Testing) by default for local browsing. One Chromium window runs many processes. This load uses up 1 GB or 2 GB of RAM fastest.
You can decrease that load in 2 ways:
- Install with
--skip-browser. The installer does not add Chromium, andhermes updatedoes not add it back. - Use the cloud browser from the Nous Portal Tool Gateway. The browser load moves out of your VPS.
The v0.23.0 release notes (5 November 2026) also change memory use. Long-running gateways now release the memory of closed sessions. The glibc malloc arenas have a limit of 4. The new Webapp serves the Desktop workspace from your gateway, but the Webapp is off by default.
The conclusion: buy RAM first, not vCPU. The gateway spends most of its time in a wait for the model answer from the network.
5 checks before you pay for a VPS
The monthly price is only 1 of 5 checks that decide if Hermes Agent runs without problems.
- Linux with glibc and systemd. The platform support page says that the team tests Hermes Agent on the latest Ubuntu and on WSL2. Linux x86_64 and aarch64 both have support, so an ARM VPS is also an option.
- Root or sudo access. Chromium and the system tools need libraries that an admin installs. Shared hosting and cPanel do not give this access.
- Snapshots or backups. One bad configuration can make you start again from zero. Check if snapshots cost extra, then test 1 restore before production.
- Transfer quota. Hermes Agent sends prompts and gets model answers through the network. Check the monthly quota and the price above the quota.
- Data location. If the agent keeps messages from customers in Indonesia, ask your legal team if that data can stay outside the country. If it cannot, pick the Jakarta region.
Costs that the pricing page does not show
The first invoice is often larger than the table price because of 4 extra costs.
- Tax. DigitalOcean charges VAT to Indonesian accounts. Biznet Gio and DomaiNesia show prices without tax. Check the total on the first invoice.
- Snapshots and automatic backups. Vultr automatic backups and DigitalOcean weekly backups add 20% to the server price.
- Region cost. Hetzner CPX22 costs €26.99 in Singapore and €19.99 in Germany. The Akamai price in Jakarta is 20% higher than in Singapore.
- The model bill. The model API bill is separate from the VPS bill. With daily use, it can be more than the server price.

Questions and answers
Is a US$5 VPS enough for Hermes Agent?
Yes, for a gateway with 1 channel and no browser on the VPS. The official Hermes Agent README says that the agent can run on a "$5 VPS". If Chromium runs on the VPS, pick 4 GB of RAM.
Can Hermes Agent run on an ARM VPS?
Yes. The Hermes Agent platform support page lists Linux x86_64 and aarch64 as supported platforms. A distribution with glibc and systemd usually works.
Does Hermes Agent need a GPU?
No, if the language model runs on the API of a model provider. You need a GPU only if you run a local model on the same server.
Is a Singapore or a Jakarta region better?
Both give a low network delay for users in Indonesia. Pick Jakarta if customer data must stay in Indonesia. Pick Singapore if you want more provider options.
Is it safe to open the Hermes Agent Webapp to the internet?
The Webapp is off by default and is for 1 user only. If you open it through a public URL, turn on sign-in and limit access. A signed-in tab acts as you.
